The MARC Project

Supporting those with addiction problems to reduce self harm, promote sobriety and maintain independence. The unrestricted access of the drop-in allows for conversation, showers, clean clothes and hot food.

Floating Support helps develop the necessary life skills for independent living, including housework, paying bills and interacting with other agencies. Prison and hospital visitation are also carried out by staff and volunteers.

In my last years of heavy drinking, I didn’t eat at all and I was two stone underweight. I never admitted I was an alcoholic until I collapsed in the street. That was when I finally agreed to accept help from The Link.”

“…coming to The Link gives me opportunity to realise my problems and I also meet
people with the same problems and I appreciate it so much. The Link has helped me so
much”. Client of The Link’s MARC Project

“The Link is a place to go to and meet people and it helps with family problems and
drinking. We go for meetings on Wednesdays which help me a lot and they take us out
places, which is also very good”. Client of The Link’s MARC Project

Recent Activities

The MARC Programme continues to be busy, with recent out-of-centre activities, such as ten- pin bowling and crazy golf, the aim of which is to create a diversionary activity as well as developing self esteem, confidence and team-working abilities for the members involved.

The New Building

Everyone has settled into the new building and we are enjoying the extra space.  With the new kitchen and appliances we are now able to prepare meals on site.  This has given the MARC members an opportunity to learn new culinary skills, which they are also making use of in their own homes.

MARC Graduation Night

On 11th February, four members of the MARC Project celebrated their Graduation evening.  This was a significant night for the members, volunteers and staff as they gathered to congratulate these members in having gained confidence to come off the floating support programme and achieving sobriety for over two years.  The night reflected on their individual journeys, and the milestones each had reached.  We also look expectantly towards the future and the many things still to be achieved.
