Home Project23 (Youth) Football as a Foreign Language

With this in mind we looked to set up "Football as a Foreign Language". The course aims to proivde them with a greater understanding of minority workers by engaging the young  people in programme work and in a visit to Hungary. The programme work will look at their attitudes towards minorities, what they believe are the facts about migrant workers and what the realities are. Then on 30th July a group of 8 young people and 6 staff will be travel to Hungary. For 4 days we will be exploring the city of Budapest then for 7 days we will be spending time in a village called Telkibanya. They will forming a football team with a group of young people from Telkibanya and engaging in group work to find common ground.

Along with Project 23 there is a group from MARC who will be working with older residents of the village to help them maintain gardens and do odd jobs as well as sharing their life stories and struggles. THeir porject is called New Ground as not only have they never been to Hungary is about them breaking new ground in their own life and starting afresh. There is also a group going from a church in Bangor. In truth it is through their link with Telkibanya that we're able to go, so we would like to pass on our thanks to 1st Bangor Presbyterian and Helen Sloan in particular.

If you would like to help support it we have a number of fundraising events coming up  (go to our Face book page for more information) as well as a "Just Giving" page at: www.justgiving.com/Football-As-A-Foreign-Language
